Obituary for Josephine Bonnie Smith
Josephine Bonnie Smith, 86, of Rutherford, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017. She was born to John Peter Ruiu and Josephine Veronica (nee Carucci) in Bayonne.
On Josephine’s 19th birthday, she married the love of her life Walter E. Smith. They were married for 67 years and remained a loving couple who always held each others hands, even until Josephine’s very last days. Together they had three wonderful daughters whom they adored.
Josephine started out as a candy striper at Bayonne Hospital, then went to NY Telephone Company as a query girl. From there Josephine worked for Insulfab Plastics as a payroll manager in E. Rutherford for 24 years, before retiring in 1989. She loved writing human interest stories for the Herald News, she belonged to the New Commerce Club in Rutherford and volunteered for Saint Mary’s School PTA.
Josephine will be deeply missed by her devoted & loving husband Walter E. Smith, Children; Wendy Carole Estok and husband Joseph, Pamela Jane Svitil and late husband Mark, Debra Lynn Uhl, Grandchildren; Matthew Estok and wife Jennifer, Melissa (Svitil) Flick and husband Jared, Bonnie (Estok) DaSilva husband Nelson, Michael Svitil, Andrea Uhl, Alan Uhl, Great-grandchildren; Bethany, Henrik, David, Lukas, Mark, Siblings; Clare Falciani. Josephine is predeceased by her siblings, John, Albert and Bernard Ruiu.
Family will receive friends Sunday 4-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral Monday 9:30am from the Funeral Home for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
