Obituary for Madeline "Sue" Capoano

Madeline "Sue" Capoano
Madeline “Sue” Capoano (nee Meicke), 88, of Secaucus passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 8, 2017. She was born in Hoboken on January 8, 1929 to George and Mae Meicke. She was one of thirteen children and has always been referred to as "Sue". Sue married a young man named Carmen, and together they had two children, Frank and Helene. Sadly, her husband Carmen passed away in 1954, leaving Sue a young widow at 25 years old. Sue was broken hearted, yet she was a woman “ahead of her time”, tough and determined. She learned how to drive and was self-supportive. She was a Secretary employed by the Jersey City Board of Education for 50 years before retiring just 11 years ago. While working full time, she also worked as a waitress for 15 years at Erks Restaurant in Jersey City. Sue had a bigger than life personality. She was a great dancer, a wonderful cook and an amazing baker. Family time was utmost important to Sue and she adored and cherished her 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Sue is predeceased by her son, the late Frank Capoano (2000) and her longtime companion of 40 years, Patrick “Patty” Quirk (1998). She will be deeply missed by her devoted daughter Helene Lozano and her husband Joe Bruzzesi, daughter-in-law Joy Capoano and her husband Hal Ciser, grandchildren; Candice and her husband Salvatore Vicari, Craig Capoano and his wife Jennifer, Courtney and her husband Marc Morrone, Frank Capoano & Dion Lozano, great- grandchildren; Dylan, Cooper, Liam, Lucas, Austin & Tyler and 2 siblings, Elizabeth Bracconeri & James Meicke. She is predeceased by 10 siblings.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm in the
Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, gathering 8:30am in Funeral Home for 9:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford, followed by Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
